Flagged Waders

A message in one of the e-groups asks for help in ID-ing and recording the details of The Painted Ones (just my term for the colour-flagged migratory waders... uhm... birds) this season. S'pore's birds are marked green.

Quote: "Why do we need this data? Most of you might already know that Mandai mangroves have been removed from the URA green plan. Yet Mandai has been our biggest winter site for waders, ever since Serangoon estuary has been destroyed. Many studies, including my own, show that waders mainly roost in SBWR during high tide and feed at Mandai (maybe even Kranji or Khatib Bongsu) during low tide. More data needs to be collected to establish this observation. Hence we need all your help, if you are out looking for waders this season. I think the Bird Group and Conservation Group is working on a nation-wide monitoring program but any information collected now will add on to our knowledge and ammunition to persuade the government to keep the mudflats for the birds."

So far, I've seen lots of orange ones - that's the usual and the norm over the past years - but... green? Poor birds.
